medical delivery services

At Distribusha we may not be on the front line like paramedics with ambulances when it comes to saving lives, but all the same we take great pride in providing exceptional medical delivery services, especially as these primarily involve medical equipment deliveries, essential for the well being of patients.

What is a medical delivery and why does it matter for patient care?

Where Distribusha is concerned, a medical delivery is the delivery of either pharmaceutical supplies or medical equipment. While we don’t provide individual deliveries of pharmaceuticals to patients – that is the role of the pharmacy for those who are recuperating at home – we can and frequently deliver medical supplies to individual patients. It is vital that those patients who look to continue their recovery at home after a serious illness, accident or operation, have all the support they need.

What challenges do medical delivery services face in the UK?

One of the biggest challenges is the delivery of technical medical equipment which often needs to be left in full working order. Delivery doesn’t simply mean dropping off a pallet with the equipment firmly wrapped and attached to it. In many instances, the challenge involves the removal of old or non-operational equipment (usually to be taken for recycling) the careful unpacking and then installation of the newly delivered equipment, ensuring that it is in fully operational order. As a consequence, the major challenge for Distribusha is ensuring that our medical delivery staff members are fully trained and sufficiently knowledgeable to install important medical equipment.

How are urgent cases handled in Distribusha’s medical delivery services?

Here at Distribusha we are only able to offer an urgent same-day medical courier service through maintaining sufficient staff levels. We value our staff and see them as our most valuable asset, so rather than restrict them to zero-hours contracts as some courier companies do, we invest in our staff by making sure they have the correct training to enable them to install medical equipment at a moment’s notice. As for how we handle an urgent case, we take all the details from you with regard to what is to be delivered, where it is to be collected from and delivered to, what specific skills will be required to install it, and the timescale required. After that, you can leave all the rest to us and relax.

How can medical delivery services improve patient outcomes?

It is a well documented fact that depending on the illness, recovery at home can be swifter and more effective. However, often for a home recovery, medical equipment is needed and that’s where Distribusha’s medical delivery service can help. Whether it is a hospital bed, a wheelchair, a mobility scooter, a respirator or gas bottles, we are able to deliver them to ensure that the needs of those wishing to convalesce at home can be fully met.

What should you look for when choosing a medical delivery partner?

We take the delivery of medical equipment very seriously. As an example, when we arrive to collect any equipment for delivery, we first check to see if it has been securely packaged so that it won’t get damaged in transport. This is especially critical if we are carrying out a pallet delivery service – placing valuable medical equipment on a pallet does not guarantee its safe transport, but if it is not properly secured to the pallet, wrapped appropriately in film or other packaging material, then we won’t transport it, and we will ask for it to be correctly packaged or help you with the situation.

You should check that your chosen medical courier has the correct levels of insurance, that it has appropriate vehicles for transport, especially if the equipment is heavy and a tail lift necessary on a van. You should check that the couriers used have experience with both handling valuable medical equipment and also its installation.
