uk- courier service

There is always limit to everything, and here at Distribusha, we always prefer you to call us to find out if we can accommodate your needs with the delivery of a bulky item. We have a comprehensive fleet of fit-for-purpose vehicles, many with hydraulic tail lifts, so you would be surprised at just what we can manage to deliver for you. Here is a little more about how we operate:

Perhaps you need a pallet courier service?

If you have a bulky item you require collecting and delivering, our pallet courier service is likely your best option. We often recommend that bulky items be securely placed on a pallet prior to transportation as this makes it far easier, safer and less likely for any damage to occur.

One of the problems with bulky items is being able to physically pick them up and get them into the delivery van. While we can provide a team of up to three, sometimes this isn’t the most secure and safe option. Beyond general health and safety aspects for our staff, we always ask ourself the question: “What is the safest way to get this item onto the van and delivered at the other end?” Frequently the answer is not by increasing the number of couriers to lift it, but getting it on a pallet. This then allows us to use either a pallet truck to move the item onto the hydraulic tail lift of the vehicle, or if you have a forklift truck, then that could also be used. Of course the machinery must be securely attached to the pallet to stop it moving when in transport.

Could a technical courier delivery be what you need?

By its very nature, technical equipment tends to be quite bulky and non-standard in shape. Here at Distribusha our first priority is to ensure that the equipment has been carefully prepared ready for transportation. In many instances, placing the technical equipment securely in a crate and carefully packed so it cannot move around or bang against the crate walls is essential. Of course, in case you hadn’t worked it out, this is often the best way to transport bulky and odd-shaped technical equipment. And in case you were wondering what happens at the other end, we will remove the equipment from the crate and once it has been placed in the correct location, we will then collect all the packing materials and take them for recycling.

Why choose a courier to deliver bulky equipment?

There are several good reasons, so it is difficult to know where to begin. For starters, how about considering an alternative option, someone with a van who can do a door-to-door delivery. Here it is important to say that we don’t feel we are competing with this alternative option for the delivery of items. They can be ideal for collecting and delivering household items like beds and sofas, tables and cookers. Perhaps you have bought them second hand off eBay or Gumtree and they are just too big to fit on the back of your car. The traditional individual with a white Transit is your best bet as they are cost effective and they will usually want you to give them a hand to lift and shift the item, also saving costs.

Where we recommend you look for the services of a courier, in many such instances a technical courier, this will involve sensitive, delicate and very costly equipment which requires very careful handling, and usually with a minimum of two highly experienced team members. Yes, the cost is greater, but you are paying for experience, expertise, door-to-door delivery and, often of greatest importance, professional installation at the destination and where practical, ensuring that everything is in perfect working order prior to departure.

Bulky items take up more space, and at Distribusha we have the ideal vehicles with hydraulic tail lifts, together with ample height and width, so you would be surprised just how bulky an item of technical or medical equipment we can handle.

What are we talking about when we refer to bulky items requiring a courier delivery service?

One of the most common examples is a hospital bed for installation in a private residence, usually for post-operative convalescence. Many of these beds can be heavy and bulky, especially if they are also electrically operated to adjust tilt and back height. Another area where we find there are a lot of bulky items and where our white glove courier service comes to the fore is for antique furniture, whether it is large dining tables, wardrobes, or king-size beds. Not only are these bulky to transport but they also require very careful handling and stabilising for transport.

How heavy can the equipment be when using a courier delivery?

Where Distribusha is concerned, we don’t have a set limit, but you have to bear in mind that we don’t operate forklift trucks or drive large lorries or articulated vehicles. In other words, somewhere around the 100-120kg mark is a good guide, bit as we always suggest, call us if you want to find out if we can transport your item. It is interesting to note that many delivery firms set maximum weight limits around 30kg and a maximum length of 120cm, so we can reassure you that we are appreciably more flexible than that.
