Couriers Aren’t Just for Delivering Small Packages – Distribusha can deliver very large items, and is perfect for medical delivery courier services
The world of courier services is full of misconceptions, which is why we love dispelling so many of these myths with our in-depth articles focusing on all aspects of courier services, from same day courier services to technical courier services and everything in between. So, which of those myths are we going to dispel here – that as a courier service, Distribusha only delivers standard size parcels and packages. We should tell you, from the beginning, that we don’t! In fact, you would be surprised to learn just what we have delivered.
Distribusha is a name synonymous with courier services – large items
There are two properties usually associated with large items: size and weight. For Distribusha, this requires a combination of up to three elements, two of which many delivery services cannot offer.
1. Size, weight and staffing – this is often the greatest challenge as there is a limit to the size of any item one individual can carry. Here at Distribusha, that is not a problem as we don’t operate a ‘one man and his van’ system and instead we can provide a team of up to three couriers for any delivery. While you may think that we have made an obvious mistake here we haven’t. Yes, we know that where we collect a large item from, there may be two people there to help with getting it into the van, but what about at the other end? We prefer not to take risks and not only what we deliver, but how we deliver it very much is a reflection on the company we are delivering the item for. We want to convey the impression of a well organized and professional delivery service in order to appropriately represent our clients. To be honest, what sort of an impression would it make if we turned up with a large item for delivery with one courier, asking if there were a couple of people available to ‘give us a hand’? Beyond this, we have the question of weight. While there is no legal maximum weight any individual is allowed to lift on their own, it is generally accepted that 25kg is sufficient for men and 16kg for women. More to the point, we care about our couriers and the last thing we would want is for them to be laid off work for several weeks with a bad back! Consequently, we can provide up to three couriers for particularly heavy items, and they will also come with a pallet truck (not a forklift truck) if the item has already been loaded onto a pallet (we would normally ask for this for particularly heavy items).
2. Size, weight and vehicles – a Ford Transit van or similar-size vehicle is capable of carrying only a certain maximum size of item, owing to a maximum capacity of roughly ten cubic metres. Here at Distribusha we have vehicles with a capacity of up to 18 cubic metres. Of course, with some large items, there also comes the challenge of increased weight and while, as mentioned above, we can provide the additional couriers needed, you also need to have a fit-for-purpose vehicle. Where there is a large and heavy load, we would dispatch couriers with a vehicle which had a hydraulic tail lift as it is by far the safest type of vehicle under the circumstances.
Medical courier services for large and bulky items
Perhaps the first thing that may come to mind is a hospital bed. Here we are not talking about delivering beds to hospitals (though we can do that). No, instead we are talking about delivering beds and other medical equipment to home-based individuals who are not ill enough to be in hospital, but who still require care at home. They could be a post-op patient or simply someone who is elderly and infirm and in need of daily care. We can deliver bulky gas bottles, breathing equipment, basically anything medically related.
However, we don’t just deliver bulky medical equipment to home-based patients. We also have an excellent reputation for delivering bulky medical equipment to surgeries and consultants, often in combination with our technical courier services. The reason for this is that we don’t just deliver medical equipment, but we also install it to make sure it is fully functioning before we depart and if we are delivering a replacement item, we will remove the original equipment and as part of our commitment to be an eco-responsible courier, we will take it to an approved recycling depot.
Distribusha’s ability to deliver large packages
Because we are a courier company that has grown continually over time, we have listened to the individual needs of our valued clients and very soon we realised that the ability to provide a courier service for unusual or one-off deliveries, especially a courier service for large items would provide tremendous benefits. Beyond that, we also realised that there was no ‘one size fits all’ solution as we deal with so many different clients who produce or distribute so many different products. Our only solution was to provide highly trained staff and a variety of vehicles that can adapt to what is needed, and as a consequence, our courier service for large items has become very popular.
