Manufacturer-Guided De-installation, Packing and Return Shipping from Chelmsford to the USA
Distribusha recently completed a specialist technical reverse logistics project involving a Canfield Scientific VISIA-CR imaging system at a customer research site in Chelmsford. With the customer study now complete, the equipment needed to be collected, dismantled, packed correctly, palletised and prepared for its return shipment to the United States.
This was far from a standard courier collection. Given the specialist nature of the VISIA-CR system, Canfield supplied detailed retrieval instructions covering every stage of the dismantling and packing process. Working from this manufacturer-provided guidance on site, Distribusha prepared the equipment carefully, returned each component to its correct original packaging and secured everything for onward international movement.
Scope of Work
Distribusha took responsibility for attending the customer site, managing the entire on-site handling process and preparing the equipment for its return journey. The team began by coordinating with the customer location and following the manufacturer’s VISIA-CR retrieval instructions throughout. From there, the work moved methodically through the system, removing and packing the headrest, disconnecting and removing the monitor, and taking out the PC along with its dedicated shelf. Power and communication cables were disconnected, and the camera was carefully removed with particular attention to protecting the camera body and lens mount.
The capture booth was removed using two-person handling and packed into its original manufacturer’s packaging, while the camera, headrest, tools and accessories were returned to their correct foam sections. The cart components were then disassembled and packed, and once the full system was secured, the equipment was placed onto a pallet and made ready for its return to the USA, handled throughout by our pallet courier service.
The Challenge
The VISIA-CR system required considerably more than simple transport. The equipment comprised multiple connected components, including the capture booth, camera, monitor, PC, cart, cabling, brackets and accessories, and the retrieval guide called for a methodical dismantling process followed by a careful packing sequence.
Each part had to be disconnected correctly, dismantled without damage, protected against dust and movement, and packed into the correct foam inserts and manufacturer-supplied packaging. The guide was also clear that palletised packaging was essential for safe transport, a requirement that mattered all the more because the equipment was being prepared for international return shipping back to the United States.
Our Approach
Distribusha attended the customer premises and worked through the retrieval process step by step. Each component was removed, protected and packed in line with the supplied instructions, with sensitive parts such as the camera body, lens mount and capture booth handled with particular care. The booth itself was removed using two-person handling and packed into its original packaging with the correct protective foam and covers.
The cart received the same attention, with the tabletop, legs, base, monitor arm, cables, screws and tools all disassembled and packed. Once the system was fully packed, the boxes were secured and placed on a pallet, ready for onward shipment.
The Result
The VISIA-CR system was successfully dismantled, packed, palletised and prepared for its return shipment to the USA. The project highlights Distribusha’s technical courier services and our ability to provide practical, hands-on support for specialist equipment in situations where a standard courier collection simply is not enough. By following the manufacturer-provided instructions, using the original packaging and preparing the equipment correctly for international return, Distribusha helped ensure that a valuable imaging system was recovered safely and professionally at the close of the customer study.
Service Highlight
This project is a strong example of white-glove technical reverse logistics in practice. It brought together specialist equipment collection, manufacturer-guided de-installation support and full dismantling and preparation for transport, all applied to sensitive medical, scientific and imaging equipment. As the VISIA-CR is sensitive imaging equipment, it received the same standards that define our medical courier services. The work also drew on Distribusha’s experience with original box packing, foam-insert packing and palletisation, as well as return-to-manufacturer logistics, international return preparation and the careful handling that high-value equipment demands.
Why This Matters
When a study, trial, demonstration or temporary installation comes to an end, specialist equipment often needs to be recovered from the customer site and returned to the manufacturer, and that process can involve far more than transport alone. The equipment may need to be dismantled, disconnected, protected, packed into its original packaging, palletised and prepared for international return.
For manufacturers, distributors and equipment providers, having a logistics partner who can follow detailed instructions and manage the physical, on-site process can save time, reduce risk and create a more professional experience for the end customer. Distribusha provides white-glove technical logistics and reverse logistics for specialist equipment across the UK, supporting manufacturers, distributors, research sites, clinics, laboratories and technology providers with careful collection, delivery, packing and return logistics.
